Elk Grove Water District is seeking qualified applicants to fill one (1) position as a Water Treatment Operator II in a full-time regular capacity.

SALARY: $28.89 - $35.11 hourly

Job Definition
Under general supervision, performs the full range of assigned duties in the operation, maintenance and repair of the water treatment facility systems; and related work as assigned/required.

  • Assists with a variety of maintenance and repair assignments at the District’s production wells, water filtration plants, and associated equipment.
  • Operates and monitors various instruments, analyzers, gauges, chemical feeders, pumps, and general mechanical equipment used in the disinfection and treatment of water.
  • Operates SCADA (Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition) computer equipment to control and monitor treatment processes through the treatment plant and water distribution system.
  • Maintains accurate records and documentation of daily equipment checks, water quality analyses, maintenance tasks, shift log, etc.
  • Responds to and advises customers regarding water quality complaints or pressure issues.
  • Collects samples and performs routine laboratory tests and analysis; determines chemical and physical characteristics of raw and finished water.
  • Determines chemical dosage and makes adjustments to plant processes as required to meet water quality objectives.
  • Complies with all District policies, procedures, rules and regulations including all safety standards
  • Inspects and oversees work performed by contractors and vendors.

Ability to:

  • Perform treatment plant operations and maintenance activities, using sound independent judgement within established guidelines.
  • Recognize unusual, inefficient or dangerous operating conditions and take appropriate action.
  • Work in high hazard areas including high traffic areas, confined space vaults, tall heights, chemical rooms/sheds, and around live machinery with mechanically moving parts.
  • Regularly work in an outdoor environment, with exposure to dust, dirt including adverse weather conditions.
  • Communicate orally and in writing with District management, co-workers, and the public in a variety of settings.
  • Regularly use Microsoft Office software (Word, Excel, Outlook, etc.) and a telephone for communication with district staff, outside vendors and contractors.
  • Use office equipment such as computer, copiers, and FAX machines.
  • Operate various equipment (generator, truck crane, air compressor, chemical transfer pump, etc.) and forklift (upon certification).
  • Operate District vehicles.

Physical Requirements:

  • Carry, push, reach, and lift equipment and parts weighing up to 90 pounds.
  • Stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, and climb during field maintenance and repair work.
  • Walk on uneven terrain.
  • Sit or stand for extended periods of time.
  • Hear and see within normal ranges.

Required Certifications and Licenses:

  • State of California Water Treatment Operators certificate T2.
  • State of California Water Distribution Operators certificate D2.
  • Possession of a valid Class A California Driver’s License.

Required Education and Experience:

  • High School Diploma

  • Two years of experience with EGWD or three years at another potable water treatment facility/utility, classified as a Water Treatment Operator I or Water Distribution Operator I while possessing a State of California Water Treatment Operators certificate T2, State of California Water Distribution Operators certificate D2, and demonstrated knowledge/ability, or

  • Three years of experience at a wastewater utility, classified as a wastewater treatment operator I.
