Under general direction, plans, coordinates, directs and implements the operations of the City's Water Resource Recovery Facility (WRRF) to ensure compliance with all applicable Federal and State regulations for surface water discharge and water recycling. This position is responsible for directing, establishing control parameters, monitoring the adjustment of unit processes at the facility to improve efficiency and maintain a stable, high quality effluent, and directing and coordinating the performance of all related operational and maintenance functions. Supervises and leads WRRF operations staff to ensure positive, efficient and cooperative teamwork and facility operations. Ensures that high quality wastewater treatment is provided in an efficient and cost-effective manner. Maintains a close relationship with the WRRF Chief Maintenance Technician, and Utilities Water Quality Laboratory staff to coordinate scheduled and unscheduled work while ensuring regulatory compliance. Ensures conformance with all applicable rules, regulations and City policies. TYPICAL QUALIFICATIONS EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
An associate degree or completion of 60 semester units at an accredited college or university in a course of study such as wastewater technology, civil or environmental engineering, environmental studies, natural resources management, biology, chemistry or related field.
A valid Grade III Wastewater Treatment Plant Operator's certificate issued by the California State Water Resources Control Board, pass the exam for Wastewater Treatment Plant Operator Grade IV within the probation period, and attain a valid Wastewater Treatment Plant Operator Grade IV certificate within two years.
Four years' experience in the operation of an activated sludge treatment plant, utilizing nitrification and tertiary filtration. Two years of lead or supervisory experience in the operation of an activated sludge wastewater treatment plant. Laboratory, treatment plant maintenance and hazardous materials response experience is desirable.
An equivalent combination of education and experience. Salary:
