Summary
The primary function of an employee in this class is to perform technical duties in the inspection, sampling, and monitoring of the drinking water quality in the distribution system, and testing, inspecting, repairing, and installing backflow prevention assemblies. An employee in this class responds to, investigates, diagnoses, and tracks customer complaints. Additionally, an employee in this class maintains compliance documents for the purpose of assisting in the administration of the City's cross connection control program which includes conducting backflow surveys. An employee in this class may be assigned to other duties in the City's Public Works & Utilities Department.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or GED equivalency supplemented by one year of college or technical training courses; and
  • Three (3) years' experience with physical or chemical testing, water treatment, water distribution system, sewer system maintenance or directly related field;
  • ADEQ Grade II Water Treatment Plant Operator's and/or Water Distribution Certificate; and
  • Ability to obtain and maintain the Cross Connection Control Specialist Certification within one (1) year of hire or promotion date; and
  • Ability to obtain and maintain the Backflow Prevention Assembly Tester Certification within one (1) year of hire or promotion date; and
  • Valid Arizona Driver's License with acceptable driving record; or
  • Any equivalent combination of experience and training which provides the knowledge and abilities necessary to perform the work.

Desirable Qualifications:

  • Backflow Prevention Assembly Tester Certification;
  • Cross Connection Control Specialist Certification;
  • Knowledge of EPA's regulations under the Safe Drinking Water Act;
  • Proficient in computer applications.
The position available is regular full-time and is subject to a six (6) month probationary period. A register of qualified candidates will be active for four (4) months should another position become available.

Salary: $24.52 to $32.62 Hourly
