A Water Quality Inspector is responsible for performing technical and program administration duties in support of the Water Quality Unit. Work as a Water Quality Inspector involves continual learning in order to understand and stay current on regulations, procedural updates, and water quality issues. A Water Quality Inspector assigned to water sampling is responsible for obtaining water samples from a variety of sources including: well sites, the distribution system, reservoirs, treatment plants, and customers' homes. Samples are analyzed in the City of Mesa's laboratory or contracted to outside labs. A Water Quality Inspector assigned to water sampling is responsible for making arrangements with laboratories, reviewing all results for accuracy, and generating compliance reports. In addition, employees prepare water sampling plans, maintain program compliance with federal and state requirements, and write associated compliance reports.

Minimum Qualifications Required. Any combination of training, education, and experience equivalent to graduation from high school or GED. Good (1 - 3 years) experience with a water treatment, backflow, water distribution system, or a closely related area along with some (6 months - 1 year) experience in public contact work, preferably involving the enforcement of laws, ordinances, and/or environmental regulations.

Special Requirements. Must possess a valid Class D Arizona Driver's License by hire or promotion date. Must possess a Grade I (or higher) Water Distribution Operator or Water Treatment Plant Operator Certification from the Arizona Department of Environmental Quality (ADEQ) or equivalent certification from another state through reciprocity with Arizona by application date. Certification through reciprocity must be obtained within three months of hire or promotion. Must hold a valid Backflow Prevention Assembly General Tester Certification by application date. Forty-hour HazWoper Certification is required within 18 months of hire date.

Salary: $46,758 to $62,941 Annually
