The Wastewater Plant Supervisor coordinates the organization, staffing and operational activities for the operations, maintenance and repair of a wastewater treatment plant and an advanced water treatment plant; participates in the development and implementation of goals, objectives, policies and priorities; recommends and implements resulting policies and procedures; identifies opportunities for improving service delivery methods and procedures; identifies resource needs; reviews with appropriate management staff; implements improvements; directs, coordinates and reviews the work plan for assigned wastewater and advanced water treatment services and activities; assigns work activities and projects; monitors work flow; serves as lead operator to complete daily maintenance tasks; maintains all process records and enters data into computer system; inspects, monitors and adjusts all wastewater and advanced water treatment processes and procedures; reports all equipment break downs and takes appropriate corrective action; evaluates plant and laboratory data and makes process control changes; evaluates chemical usage and provides cost analyses; maintains and conducts training and safety programs; selects, trains, motivates and evaluates wastewater and advanced water treatment personnel; provides or coordinates staff training; works with employees to correct deficiencies; submits budget recommendations; attends and participates in professional group meetings; stays abreast of new trends and innovations in the field of wastewater and advanced water plant operation; performs related duties and responsibilities as required. Must have thorough knowledge of the operation of the plant’s SCADA system. Must be familiar with reporting requirements of various regulatory agencies. May perform duties of the Chief Plant Operator (Wastewater or Advanced Water) in his/her absence.
Experience and Training
Experience: Three years of responsible experience in the operation and maintenance of wastewater, water, or advanced water treatment facilities, including one year of lead or supervisory experience or at least three years as a Water or Wastewater Treatment Plant Operator III or higher in lieu of lead or supervisory experience.
Training: Equivalent to the completion of the twelfth grade supplemented by specialized training in water science, environmental science or a related field.
Possession of, or the ability to obtain and maintain, an appropriate, valid California Driver's License.
Possession of a valid Wastewater Treatment Plant Operator Grade III certificate issued by the California State Water Resources Control Board and the ability to obtain a Wastewater Treatment Plant Operator Grade IV certificate within eighteen (18) months.
Possession of a valid Advanced Water Treatment Plant Operator Grade III certificate issued by the American Water Works Association/California Water Environment Association, a valid Water Treatment Plant Operator Grade III certificate issued by the California State Water Resources Control Board and the ability to obtain a Wastewater Treatment Plant Operator Grade III certificate within eighteen (18) months.
As a condition of employment, the incumbent must obtain the listed certifications within the stated timeline from the date of hire.
Salary: $72,180 to $96,744 Annually
