Quartz Hill Water District is currently seeking a qualified applicant for a fulltime Serviceman I or Serviceman II position. There is currently one vacancy to fill. The recruitment is being conducted for both classifications. The vacancy may be filled at either level pending the recruitment outcome.

PayScale

Serviceman 1 – $67,744.25 – 77,424.77 annually, plus benefits

Serviceman 2 – $79,849.85 – $89,569.31 annually, plus benefits

PRIMARY DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES – Duties may include but are not limited to the following:

  • Read, repair, install, maintain water meters.
  • Assist with the installation and repair of water mains, services, fire hydrants, air vacs, blow offs, and gate valves.
  • Operate valves, flush fire hydrants and blow offs.
  • Drill and tap water mains. 
  • Jack hammer and cut asphalt. 
  • Patch pavement with temporary or permanent asphalt. 
  • Dig and backfill trenches with hand tools.
  • Follow all safety methods and procedures, checking tool and equipment for safe operating conditions.
  • Safely operate District owned vehicles and equipment.
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships with those contacted in the course of work including District staff and the general public (such as work orders).
  • Mark water line and lateral locations with blue paint for USA’s.
  • Responsible for completion of daily time sheets.
  • Landscaping and maintenance of District facilities.
  • Able to be on 24 hour call for a 7 day period or assist other District personnel in case of emergency after hours and in other unusual times.
  • Be able to evaluate and correct SCADA system alarms and malfunctions.
  • Take routine water samples.
  • Daily monitoring of pumps and reservoirs.
  • Other duties as directed by Manager/Engineer or Crew Leader.
  • Understand the District’s Policies, Rules and Regulations.

Required Education/Experience/Certifications


Serviceman 1

  • High School Diploma or G.E.D.
  • 1 year of applicable experience in the water industry
  • SWRCB Water Distribution Operator D-2 Certified
  • SWRCB Water Treatment Operator T-1 certified
  • Valid California Driver’s License (class A is required within 12 months of hire)

Serviceman 2

  • High School Diploma or G.E.D.
  • 3 years of applicable experience in the water industry
  • SWRCB Water Distribution Operator D-3 Certified
  • SWRCB Water Treatment Operator T-1 certified
  • Class A drivers license with tanker endorsement
  • Ability to operate a backhoe
