Hourly Rate: $37.05 - $49.65 - Posted salary reflects a 5% increase effective July 5, 2024.

DEFINITION
Under general supervision, performs complex technical installations, repairs, and testing of residential, commercial, and agricultural water meters; reads, records, and reports water usage; responds to complex customer service issues; tests, inspects, and repairs backflow devices; coordinates backflow records and reporting per state regulations; performs related duties as required.

SUPERVISION RECEIVED AND EXERCISED
This position is directly supervised by the Meter Services Supervisor and does not supervise any staff. It is the advanced journey-level Meter Service Worker in the department and may assist with scheduling, training, and prioritizing work as assigned. It is not a designated lead position and does not assume supervision of the department in the absence of the supervisor but will assist the Chief Financial Officer.

CLASS CHARACTERISTICS
This single incumbent position is the advanced journey level class in this series performing duties related to cross-connection, backflow, and more complex meter service, testing, and repair; and regularly performs meter reading and responds to customers.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
Any combination of education or experience that would likely provide the necessary knowledge and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to obtain this knowledge and abilities would be: high school graduation or equivalent, and; four years’ experience in water meter maintenance, testing, and repair, including at least 1 year performing cross-connection duties.

LICENSES, CERTIFICATES, AND SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Possession of, or ability to obtain, a Class C California driver’s license, and a satisfactory driving record;

  • Possession of a Backflow Device Tester Certificate issued by the American Water Works Association (AWWA), or American Backflow Prevention Association (ABPA) required;

  • Possession of a Cross Connection Specialist Certificate issued by the AWWA or ABPA is desirable;

  • Possession of a State Water Resources Control Board Water Distribution Grade 1 (D1) certification is desirable.
