The incumbent is responsible for performing semi-skilled to journeyman level duties in maintaining and repairing equipment, performing construction activities, and performing facilities maintenance. The incumbent is responsible for maintenance at our recharge facilities in Anaheim. Duties include performing a variety of maintenance and preventative maintenance tasks which includes, but not limited to pumps, compressors, inflatable rubber dams, valves actuators, flow meters, chemical pumps, generators and pilot units, painting, carpentry, metal fabrication and any other related activities required to maintain equipment. Some maintenance work requires getting in a boat and going in the water. Duties may also include performing a variety of building maintenance activities, which includes: minor remodeling, painting, furniture assembly, equipment assembly and modifications, plumbing repairs, roof leaks, furniture moves, appliance repairs, landscaping HVAC, housekeeping and cleanup activities and other related activities including working in non-permitted and permitted confined spaces.
QUALIFICATIONS for All Grades:
High School Diploma or General Equivalency Degree. College level course work desirable in maintenance and water or wastewater. Work experience demonstrating mechanical aptitude; or an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job such as those listed above. Possession of wastewater or water certification desirable. Incumbents must be able to obtain: Forklift Certification within 3 months; Commercial Driver’s License, Class B with airbrake and tank endorsements within six months of position at employee’s sole expense (This is a plus but not mandatory) Heavy Work: Exerting in excess of 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or in excess of 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or in excess of 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects. Incumbents may be subjected to moving mechanical parts, electrical currents, vibrations, fumes, odors, dusts, chemicals, oils, extreme temperatures, work space restrictions, and noise. Welding experience and certification is highly desirable. Required to wear personal protective clothing/equipment appropriate for job assignments including SCBA. Must comply with District’s Respiratory Protection Program and CAL OSHA Safety Regulations. Equipment used by personnel required for the position may require multiple certifications.
SPECIFIC QUALIFICATIONS FOR MAINTENANCE TECHNICIAN I:
One to two years of related work experience demonstrating mechanical aptitude; and/or an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job such as those listed above. Incumbents must obtain CWEA Grade I Maintenance Certification within 1 year of employment.
SPECIFIC QUALIFICATIONS FOR MAINTENANCE TECHNICIAN II:
Three to four years of related experience demonstrating mechanical aptitude; and/or 3 years of related work experience applying welding skills in the maintenance and repair of mechanical equipment; or an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job such as those listed above. Incumbents must have CWEA Grade II Maintenance Certification and 1G flat, 2G horizontal and 3G vertical welding certifications or combinations of journeyman welding experience.
SPECIFIC QUALIFICATIONS FOR SENIOR MAINTENANCE TECHNICIAN III:
Five years of directly related journey level skilled maintenance experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job such as those listed above. CWEA Grade III Maintenance Technician Certification required, California Wastewater Certification within six months; Depending on essential duties, may require welding certification within six months. Ability to wear a Self-Contained Breathing Apparatus and respond to emergency situations. May be required to obtain crane certification within six months of hire.
Schedule: Grade II & III, will be required to work on call standby rotation with the ability to be on site within 1 hour of being called. Depending on the needs of the District, all grades will be required to work extended shifts, weekends and Holidays. This position reports to Field Headquarters (FHQ) in Anaheim, CA.
Salary Range DOQ:
Maintenance Technician Grade I: $30.58 - $38.21 per hour
Maintenance Technician Grade II: $37.16 - $46.45 per hour
Sr. Maintenance Technician Grade III: $40.97 - $51.22 per hour
