Under immediate and general supervision of the Water Systems Supervisor, a Lead Water Systems Technician organizes, plans, and directs staff responsible for construction, maintenance, and various other potable water distribution, sanitary sewer, and recycled water system activities. These activities include but are not limited to technical, skilled, and manual duties associated with the operation and maintenance of water pumping, storage, and disinfection systems. A Lead Water Systems Technician provides direction to Senior Water Systems Technician, Water Systems Technician II, and Water Systems Technician I positions. A Lead Water Systems Technician may perform any or all of the essential functions or may delegate as needed.
QUALIFICATIONS (The following are minimal qualifications necessary for entry into the classification.)
Education and/or Experience
Any combination of education and experience that has provided the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary for a Lead Water Systems Technician. A typical way of obtaining the required qualifications is to possess:
Five (5) years increasingly responsible experience in the operation, maintenance, and construction of a production system, including two (2) years’ experience as a Senior Water Systems Technician or position of equivalent responsibilities.
Licenses and Certifications
- Possession of a valid Grade IV Distribution Operator’s certification issued by the Division of Drinking Water.
- Possession of a valid Grade II Treatment Operator’s certification issued by the Division of Drinking Water.
- Possession of a valid Class C California driver’s license is required.
