SALARY: Salary Range: 157 - 167 (5 steps in each range) - assigned Salary Range based on certifications held.
No Qualifying Certifications: Salary Range 157 / Step 1 - $39.29 to Step 5 - $47.74
One Qualifying Certification: Salary Range 162 / Step 1 - $41.79 to Step 5 - $50.82
Two Qualifying Certifications: Salary Range 167 / Step 1 - $44.45 to Step 5 - $54.02
Performs a variety of semi-skilled and skilled tasks in the operation and maintenance of water distribution infrastructure, including water lines, pressure reducing stations, pumping plants, groundwater wells, storage tanks, treatment facilities and related equipment; uses telemetry equipment and computer systems to ensure distribution system operability; performs duties relating to water quality, water quality sampling and cross-connection control programs; acts as a crew leader in the assignment, coordination, training and work review of crew. Assist training staff to master work techniques, new procedures, and safety issues. Oversee and participate in the operation, installation, maintenance, repair, and testing of valves, water mains, fire hydrants, taps, backflow prevention devices and other water distribution facilities. Clean and flush system. Locate and repair leaks in distribution lines. Respond to customer inquiries; maintain and ensure adequate water supply in the direct reservoirs and water system. Ensure compliance with the DDW documentation requirements for cross connection control program. Participate in emergency call duty on a rotation basis, at the District's discretion. Position is considered a "first responder" during emergency conditions and employee must live within 30 minutes travel time of District's headquarters. Respond to after hour’s events. Acts as the "Chief Distribution Operator" when operationally necessary as determined by the Department Manager.
EXPERIENCE: Four (4) years’ experience in water system operations and maintenance, with a comparable sized water utility/agency.
EDUCATION: Graduation from high school or equivalent.
LICENSES & CERTIFICATIONS: Possess and maintain a valid, unrestricted Class "C" California Driver License with a satisfactory driving record. Position requires SWRCB D4 and T2 Certifications and an AWWA Backflow Prevention Assembly General Tester Certificate upon hire.
