Under general direction, plans, organizes, provides direction and oversight of all laboratory program, compliance and activities; schedules, assigns, reviews, and supervises the work of staff performing duties within the City’s wastewater treatment plant laboratory. This position plans and coordinates a comprehensive laboratory service program including providing sampling and analytical support activities to various programs within the Public Works Utilities and Operations (PWUO) Department that includes but not limited to: drinking water, wastewater, recycled water, pretreatment, and stormwater In addition, provides direction and oversight of quality assurance functions, oversees laboratory program reporting, provides complex staff assistance to management staff in areas of expertise; primary contact for regulatory agencies regarding laboratory services, and performs related work as required.
Education and Experience:
Any combination of training and experience that would provide the required knowledge, skills, and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the required qualifications would be:
Equivalent to a bachelor's degree from an accredited college with major coursework in environmental science, chemistry, biology, microbiology, or a related field.
Four (4) years of experience conducting chemical or biological laboratory analyses, with at least two (2) of those years in a water or wastewater treatment plant facility of comparable size and complexity to Davis’s. One (1) year experience in supervising and managing an ELAP certified laboratory; and at least one (1) year experience in the actual application or renewal process through the California ELAP or other accreditation program is desirable.
Licenses and Certifications:
- Possession of a valid California Driver's License, to be maintained throughout employment.
- Possession of a valid Grade III or IV Laboratory Analyst Certification issued by the California Water Environment Association (CWEA) or similar agency, to be maintained throughout employment.
