The City of Ventura is hiring! We have an immediate vacancy for the position of Laboratory Analyst I/II with the City’s Ventura Water Department. Come join our team as we align our workforce to better serve our community together – they're counting on us.
The Laboratory Analyst I/II works under general supervision and is responsible for performing routine chemical, physical, biological analysis, and sampling of potable water, wastewater, industrial waste, storm water, receiving waters, and other environmental samples.
The ideal candidate for this position is self-motivated, detail-oriented, and able to work independently and as part of a team. This person will understand general laboratory safety standards and understand the California Water Environment Association sampling procedures and chemical testing methods. The ideal candidate has prior working experience in a water/wastewater laboratory operation and is able to stand for long periods of time and perform sampling activities around raw sewage and wastewater. This person will have excellent interpersonal and communication skills, demonstrates proficiency in the use of computers, and has excellent math and computation skills.
The Laboratory Analyst I class is the entry-level class in the Laboratory Analyst series. The Laboratory Analyst II classification differs from the Laboratory Analyst I classification in that incumbents at the II-level operate more sophisticated instrumentation, perform complex, new, or difficult laboratory procedures, and adapt existing procedures to unfamiliar samples. This series is flexibly staffed and progression from a I to a II-level is based upon obtaining the required experience and certifications.

Salary and Benefits
The City offers a total compensation package that includes both a generous salary plus excellent benefits!
Salary: $29.54 - $39.67 Hourly DOQ
Laboratory Analyst I: A combination of education, training and/or experience equivalent to one year of college level coursework, including two courses in a laboratory science, and one year of analytical laboratory work.
Laboratory Analyst II: A combination of education, training and/or experience equivalent to an Associate degree in chemistry or related field, and two years of analytical laboratory work.
License: Possession of a valid Class C California driver license and an acceptable driving record is required.
Laboratory Analyst I: Possession of a California Water Environment Association Laboratory Analyst I certification within one year of employment.
Laboratory Analyst II: Possession of a California Water Environment Association Laboratory Analyst II certification.
