The Water Facilities Authority is recruiting to fill one of the above positions, depending on qualifications.
The Water Facilities Authority (Authority) owns and operates an 81 MGD conventional water treatment facility that treats imported State Project Water, located in Upland, California. The Authority is seeking an Instrument Technician who, under general supervision, will perform a wide variety of skilled journey-level duties and other duties as assigned. EOE
Typical Duties (including but not limited to the following): Performs installations, preventative maintenance, calibrations, diagnostics and repairs of controls and related electromechanical equipment and electronic instrumentation utilized in the water treatment and distribution industry. Disassemble, clean, overhaul, rebuild, and troubleshoot water facilities equipment such as but not limited to pipes, motors, valves, pumps, filters, security system and plant lighting. Designs, modifies, maintains, and changes control systems, including SCADA, telemetry, and computer system hardware and software installation. Reads and interprets a variety of technical manuals, charts, schematics, blueprints, and a variety of display readouts to troubleshoot instrumentation or equipment.
Knowledge: Theory, principles and practices of electrical, electronic, pneumatic, hydraulic and mechanical systems, including diagnostics and testing of equipment or instrumentation, maintenance and repair, and PLC programming is desirable; Computer hardware and software installation, operation, maintenance and repair, including telemetry, communication and PLC equipment.
Skills: Ability to work with 480 volt circuits; Proficient use of a computer, SCADA system and familiarity with MS Office Suite; Ability to create and maintain legible and accurate records and basic report development.
The Instrument Technician normally works a regular day shift (4/10) and will be required to occasionally work weekends, holidays, and OT when necessary.
Minimum Qualifications:
Instrument Technician I: High School diploma or GED, electrical, electronics or computer science certificate from an accredited community college or trade school, one to two years of related work experience in the water treatment and distribution industry preferred or equivalent combination of education, training and experience. Possession of California T1 water treatment and D2 water distribution operator certificates, valid California Class C Driver’s License with current DMV printout and ability to obtain a HAZWOPER certificate within a year. Ability to lift approximately 50 lbs. and must be able to pass pre-employment drug screen and hazmat physical.
Instrument Technician II: High School diploma or GED, electrical, electronics or computer science certificate from an accredited community college or trade school, three years of related work experience in the water treatment and distribution industry preferred or equivalent combination of education, training and experience. Possession of California T2 water treatment and D2 water distribution operator certificates, valid California Class C Driver’s License with current DMV printout and ability to obtain HAZWOPER certificate within a year. Ability to lift approximately 50 lbs. and must be able to pass pre-employment drug screen and hazmat physical.
Senior Instrument Technician: High School diploma or GED, electrical, electronics or computer science certificate from an accredited community college or trade school, five years of related work experience in the water treatment and distribution industry preferred or equivalent combination of education, training and experience. Possession of California T2 water treatment and D2 water distribution operator certificates, valid California Class C Driver’s License with current DMV printout and ability to obtain HAZWOPER certificate within a year. Ability to lift approximately 50 lbs. and must be able to pass pre-employment drug screen and hazmat physical.
