The District is recruiting to fill a vacancy for an Environmental Chemist I/II in the Laboratory & Technical Services Division of the Operations Department.
Under general supervision of the Laboratory Supervisor, learns and performs a variety of routine to complex standardized chemical, physical, biological, and bacteriological analyses involved in the testing of the District's water and wastewater quality; performs a variety of technical tasks relative to conducting and interpreting standard and complex laboratory analyses; collects samples; sets up testing procedures, records data, and analyzes results; assists with field investigations to determine and mitigate wastewater problems; and performs related work as required.
The ideal candidate will have a strong working knowledge of environmental laboratory processes (wastewater and/or drinking water) and procedures, including instrumentation, QA/QC, and LIMS. The successful candidate will also have experience with laboratory instrumentation (ICP/MS and/or GC/MS) and excellent communication and writing skills. They will be a self-motivated, positive candidate with strong analytical and inter-personal skills. Training and Experience:
To qualify, a successful incumbent must possess both education and experience, which would provide the required knowledge and abilities. Experience may not substitute for education. However, the requirement for equivalent to a Bachelor's degree could be met by demonstrating completion of a number of higher-level educational units that would normally meet a Bachelor degree requirement. Possession of a Bachelor's degree with major emphasis in chemistry, bacteriology, and related subjects and one (1) year of work experience in water, wastewater, environmental, environmental, or industrial laboratory testing, analysis, and control is desirable. Environmental Chemist II
Possession of a Bachelor's degree with major emphasis in chemistry, bacteriology, and related subjects and two (2) years of increasingly responsible work experience in water, wastewater, environmental, or industrial laboratory testing, analysis, and control. Salary:
