Bureau of Watershed Management and Modeling
Job Summary: This is advanced level engineering work designing, evaluating and implementing hydrodynamic models, developing calibration criteria, performing calibration and quantifying modeling results.
Job duties include:
- Applies mechanistic hydrodynamic and water quality models to surface water bodies with emphasis on estuarine, riverine, and lake systems in support of the development of management strategies to protect and enhance water resources; calibrates models and assesses model calibration through graphical and statistical comparisons with observed data. Develops, modifies, and tests computational grids and/or meshes. Performs convergence and sensitivity tests with models as needed; independently selects, develops, and tests model components and algorithms to ensure the model application is appropriate and correct.
- Writes technical reports and peer-reviewed articles documenting model application and results; Documents model application and results; initiates literature reviews; gives oral presentations to peers, managers, and the public when required; documents model components and notes for user's manuals. Keeps supervisor informed on work progress.
- Analyzes data as necessary to develop data sets for models; downloads data from agencies and contractors; reformats and quality assures data and fills in missing records as needed for model applications; critically evaluates observed data using visual analysis and time-series analysis; plans monitoring networks required for model development; collects field data and performs synoptic hydrodynamic surveys as necessary.
- Reviews and evaluates contractor reports, analyses, designs, and other products; assists other engineers within area of expertise; Provide technical assistants to project managers as needed on engineering contracts; Develop scopes of work as needed; Review and evaluate contract proposals.
A bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in environmental, civil, hydraulic, agricultural or water resource engineering, five years experience directly related to the field in which the position is assigned.
Professional experience as described above can substitute on a year-for-year basis for the required college education. Additional Details: Base Salary:
