Two positions will be filled from this posting.
Make an Impact on Florida's Water Resources
The St. Johns River Water Management District is an environmental agency whose work is focused on ensuring a long-term supply of drinking water, and to protect and restore the health of water bodies in the District’s 18 counties in northeast and east-central Florida.
Enjoy work-life balance in a professional culture with competitive pay and benefits.
The District is seeking engineers to support the operation, maintenance, and improvement of flood protection and water control infrastructure. The ideal candidate will have experience in water resources engineering, infrastructure operations, and project management, with strong skills in data analysis, telemetry and SCADA systems, technical communication, and coordination of field activities and emergency response.
What You'll Do
- Analyze hydraulic, hydrologic, operational, and telemetry data; establish quality checks and resolve data gaps. Develop advanced spreadsheets and decision-support tools and prepare daily, weekly, and monthly reports for public web displays.
- Support telemetry and SCADA systems by reviewing data, alarms, and configuration records and coordinating troubleshooting and upgrades with vendors and integrators.
- Perform periodic field activities including site visits to flood protection structures, panels, telemetry cabinets, pump stations, gated structures, and levee systems ensuring operational readiness. Develop deficiency list(s) for repairs as required. Assist with development of summary reports. Review operational and telemetry data to identify trends, anomalies, and performance issues and prepare summary analyses and reports.
- Operate lift gates, pump stations, overshot gates, and pumping systems as assigned; coordinate water control activities with District staff and partner agencies.
- Prepare and review calculations, drawings, specifications, cost estimates, scopes of work, permit applications, and technical reports; direct consultants and contractors. Sign and seal documents when licensed and assigned.
- Inspect water control structures, levees, and supporting civil, mechanical, electrical, telemetry, control, and backup power systems for condition, reliability, risk, and readiness. Investigate deficiencies, recommend improvements, and track repairs and corrective actions through completion.
- Maintain levee and dam Emergency Action Plans, diesel and alum tank inventories, and annual Spill Prevention, Control, and Countermeasure plans. Develop and maintain flood control protocols, guidelines, operating procedures, readiness criteria, inspection and testing plans, system diagrams, and asset records.
- Represent the District in technical meetings, brief management on findings and recommendations, and coordinate with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers on federal flood control project operations and maintenance.
- Support storm and high-water operations including pre-event preparation, monitoring, emergency operations, and post-event assessments; recommend timely operational actions. Coordinate with management, technical and communications staff, agencies, and the public in support of state and local emergency management.
