The Electrician position is assigned to the Utilities Division - Wastewater and Storm Water and provides general support to the Facilities Division performing building electrical maintenance, coordination and oversight of projects.

Under direction, to perform technical duties and responsibilities in the repair and maintenance of City electrical and electronic systems including sewer pump stations, street lighting, facilities and electrical/control systems; to troubleshoot, diagnose and calibrate electrical and electronic equipment and systems; and to perform a variety of technical duties relative to assigned areas of responsibility.

The ideal candidate will possess strong customer service and interpersonal skills in order to work efficiently and effectively with all City Departments, employees and contractors. The successful candidate will have high ethical and professional standards, strong organizational and time management skills in addition to excellent verbal and written communication. They will possess journey level experience, to include electrical instrumentation control systems and the ability to effectively prioritize, work independently and consistently provide quality work. Possession of a General Electrician Certification issued by the State of California is strongly preferred at time of employment.

The Electrician position requires participation in rotational Standby/On-Call shifts which can involve working at nights, on the weekends and holidays during rain events. Candidates will need to have flexibility to perform on-call duties as assigned.

Position Requirements:
At least four years of increasingly responsible experience in the installation, maintenance repair and operation of high voltage electrical and electronic systems, including two years at the journey level.

Required Licenses and Certificates:
Possession of a valid Class B California Driver’s License with an air brake and tanker endorsement and a safe driving record or the ability to obtain the license within six (6) months of appointment.

Possession of a General Electrician Certification issued by the State of California or the ability to obtain the certification within eighteen (18) months of appointment.

Electrical Instrumentation Technologist Grade I Certificate issued by the California Water Environment Association (CWEA) is required, or the ability to obtain the certificate within eighteen (18) months of appointment.

Salary: $5,140 to $6,888 Monthly
