The District

The Position
Construction Inspectors perform inspections on capital and subdivision construction projects, including sewer, water and recycled water pipelines, pumping stations, pressure reducing stations, sewage lift stations, treatment plants, reservoirs and other facilities. Ensure conformance of these facilities with plans and specifications.

Summary of Duties

  • Inspect a variety of construction activities to ensure conformance with approved plans and specifications, and applicable laws, regulations and permits.

  • Be proficient at reading and interpreting plans and specifications.

  • Perform or observe various tests of raw materials or finished products as required by the approved plans and specifications, including but not limited to:

    • Concrete test cylinders
    • Concrete slump tests
    • Hydrostatic pressure tests
    • Air and mandrel tests
    • Sand equivalent and graduation tests
    • Soils compaction tests
    • Spark tests

  • Conduct bacteriological sampling of water systems and relinquish the samples to the IRWD laboratory.

  • Report and communicate activities in a timely manner to a supervising inspector.

  • Prepare record drawings, daily construction reports, and other written reports and notes of construction activities.

  • Assist project managers and engineers in preparation of progress payments and final payment schedules, as well as other contract administration related matters.

  • Attend project meetings, pre-construction, construction progress and any other construction related meetings.

  • Complete all final reports, plans and other construction related reports at the time of project completion.

  • Comply with District safety work-related practices and attend relevant safety training.

  • Responsible for all other work-related duties.

Qualifications

Education:
High school diploma or equivalent is required. For degrees obtained outside of the U.S., an official equivalency evaluation is required.

Experience:
Six (6) years construction related experience, with two (2) of the six (6) as a construction inspector, in the installation, repair and/or maintenance of water and sewage facilities, OR eight (8) years of construction related experience in water and sewage facilities.

License/Certification:
Valid California Class C Driver’s License is required.
