Contra Costa Water District has an excellent opportunity for a Microbiologist. This position will work in our Microbiology Laboratory in Concord, CA. The candidate will: perform a variety of physical, chemical, biological and bacteriological analyses of treated potable and raw source water; work on special applied research projects regarding water quality; and schedule laboratory activities and exercise technical and functional supervision over technical staff, as appropriate. Additional responsibilities include: interpreting analytical data to identify problems; conducting analyses of potable water with regard to regulatory requirements; and utilizing the laboratory information management system in gathering of analysis of computerized data relative to laboratory operations.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Any combination of experience and training that would provide the required knowledge and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the required knowledge and abilities would be:

EDUCATION: Equivalent to a Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university with major course work in chemistry, microbiology or other laboratory science, including successful completion of two or more courses in analytic and physical chemistry or a related field.

OR

SUBSITUTION:
Another way to fully meet the experience and training qualifications for the Chemist/Microbiologist position that focuses on the Source Water Quality Management Program, is for the candidate to possess equivalent to a Master's degree from an accredited college or university with major course work in Water Resource Management, Phycology, or Aquatic Biology.

EXPERIENCE: Three years of responsible laboratory experience performing analysis of water/wastewater samples which included at least two years performing the following:

(1) testing for metals by atomic absorption spectrophometry or for organic compounds by gas chromatography;

or

(2) conducting biologic and biochemical tests of microbiologic and organic compounds that provide familiarity with analytical techniques for bacterial specification, total coliform, fecal coliform, heterotopic organisms, chlorophyll A, fluorescence and algae enumeration.

LICENSE:
Possession of, or ability to obtain, a valid California driver's license.
