The Fairfield-Suisun Sewer District is seeking a candidate to fill a full-time position as an Associate Engineer or Senior Engineer in the District’s Engineering Department.
The District’s Engineering Department is responsible for development and management of planning, design, and construction projects to support the District’s 23.7 MGD wastewater treatment plant, 19 sanitary sewer and stormwater pump stations, and over 70 miles of gravity trunk sewer lines. The Engineering Department is also responsible for review and approval of new connections to the District’s sewer system, tracking new regulations that potentially impact the District, coordinating with outside stakeholder and regulatory agencies, and effectively communicating with District Management and the District’s Board of Directors.
An Associate Engineer is a journey-level, professionally-licensed engineer responsible for performing complex designs, plan reviews, and construction management of capital improvement projects and major maintenance projects, requiring considerable knowledge of various aspects of civil engineering, including wastewater regulations, construction methods, treatment plant and collection system operation, and public agency bidding and contracting procedures.
A Senior Engineer is an advanced journey-level, professionally-licensed engineer responsible for leading complex planning, design, and construction projects with minimal technical oversight. Responsibilities are similar to the Associate Engineer, but Senior Engineers have advanced understanding of engineering, construction, wastewater and procurement regulations, and project management. Senior Engineers serve as technical lead on projects, directing consultants, contractors, and other District Engineering staff to achieve project goals.
EDUCATION: Any combination of education and experience that has provided the knowledge, skills, and competencies required for this position can satisfy the educational requirement. A common way of obtaining the required qualifications is to possess the equivalent of a bachelor’s degree in civil engineering, mechanical engineering, or a closely related field, and five years of experience in the design and construction of public works, water/wastewater treatment infrastructure, and/or sanitary sewer projects.
LICENSES/CERTIFICATIONS: Possession of a valid license as a Professional Engineer issued by the State of California’s Board for Professional Engineers, Land Surveyors, and Geologists in good standing is required. Possession of a valid California Class C driver’s license and safe driving record is required. Failure to possess and maintain the required licenses may be cause for discipline up to and including termination.
SALARY: $124,384 to $182,374 Annually
