Office of General Counsel
The St. Johns River Water Management District (SJRWMD) Office of General Counsel is seeking to fill an Assistant General Counsel position. Depending on the experience of the applicant, the position will be filled as Assistant General Counsel I or II.
In this position, the attorney will work closely with District staff and other stakeholders, and will provide legal analysis, advice, and representation to District staff and the Governing Board regarding the interpretation and application of relevant law and policy to the District’s environmental resource permitting, water supply planning, and regulatory enforcement programs; research, review, and interpret laws, regulations, and policies affecting the District’s regulatory program; review conservation easements, deed restrictions, financial assurance and operation and maintenance documents submitted by applicants; review and draft consent agreements resolving violations of regulatory rules; provide legal support in regulatory rulemaking; serve as legal counsel for the District in judicial and administrative proceedings; and other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:
Assistant General Counsel I: Juris Doctor from a law school accredited by the American Bar Association and admission to the Florida Bar. Candidates who are awaiting admission to the Florida Bar or are preparing to graduate from an ABA-accredited law school and intend to sit for the Florida Bar Examination in 2023 will also be considered.
Assistant General Counsel II: Admission to the Florida Bar and two years of experience as a licensed attorney in civil litigation, administrative, environmental, governmental, real property or contract law. A Master of Laws (LL.M.) from an accredited law school may substitute for one year of the required experience.
Additional Details:
Salary Range for Assistant General Counsel I: $67,371.20 - $87,568.00
Salary Range for Assistant General Counsel II: $82,513.60 - $107,286.40
Starting salary is expected within the first quartile of the range, based on qualifications and experience.

*The employee assigned to this position may be eligible for a hybrid telework arrangement, in which the employee is eligible to telework up to two days per week after successfully completing an onboarding period.
