SAFETY TECHNICIAN $6,179.33 - $7,907.47 Monthly

This position is a Safety Technician position reporting to the Supervising Program Administrator in the Environmental, Health and Safety Unit.

Key responsibilities include, but are not limited to: The Safety Technician performs technical duties in programs related to occupational safety, industrial hygiene, environmental issues, health issues, fire protection, hazardous waste and hazardous materials storage and handling, biological safety, and/or other closely related environmental, health and safety (EH&S) subject areas. The Safety Technician performs technical work under the direction of other EH&S professionals within the Unit and supports the implementation and evaluation of programs designed to minimize risks to staff, the environment and property. This position may be required to participate on the District's Hazardous Materials Response Team. Other duties may include: • Assist with conducting JSA's for operations and maintenance staff. • Observe specific job tasks and gather information regarding procedures/practices involved in the job operation. • Conduct monthly inspections on all 26 AED units located throughout District facilities. Ensure AED's are in good operating condition by adhering to manufacturer inspection requirements. Replace batteries, electrode pads, and faulty or outdated AED units. • Track the status of Medical Examiner Certificates for District commercial drivers. Schedule recertification exams at occupational clinic prior to expiration. Using the DMV File Generation System software, monitor actions placed on District operators driving records. Report all actions to the supervisor. Maintain records for District commercial drivers. Ensure the following records are present and current: medical examiners certificate, DMV receipt of current medical examiners certificate and the latest DMV pull notice. • Meet with Unit Managers and update employee training requirements. Forward information regarding new training assigned or removed to Workforce Development for implementation. Notify workforce development of safety training requirements for all new hires. Schedule specialty training for field operations staff. • Conduct Tier II inspections (facility EH&S inspections) based on District and regulatory requirements for specific sites, e.g. SCVWD work instructions, Cal/Fed OSHA, NFPA, Cal Fire Code, Cal EPA, DTSC etc. • Under direction, create/update District EH&S work instructions based on departmental needs or requests from management or supervision. • Purchase specialty PPE and work-related items not stocked by the Winfield Warehouse.

Experience: Two years of administrative, field maintenance, or general clerical experience that would enable an applicant to acquire the required knowledge and abilities. Training: Equivalent to the completion of the twelfth grade supplemented by college level course work industrial safety, construction technology or a related field (such as Fire Technology, Construction Technology, Biological Sciences, Chemistry, or Physics; or Engineering such as environmental, chemical, electrical, civil, or mechanical).

License or Certificate Possession of a valid California Class C driver's license and a satisfactory driving record is required. Individuals who do not meet the driver's license requirement due to a disability will be considered for a reasonable accommodation on a case-by-case basis. Incumbents are expected to obtain and maintain certification for specific programs and equipment in which they conduct training and maintain equipment.
