The Position
The City of Vacaville is accepting applications for the position of ASSISTANT DIRECTOR OF UTILITIES. Currently, one (1) vacancy exists in the department. This recruitment will serve to establish an eligibility list that will be used to fill future vacancies that may occur in the next 12 months.

The ideal candidate for this position will demonstrate exceptional technical skills in water and wastewater while being a strategic and long term planner with creative problem solving skills that will allow him/her to provide strong support to the Director in the administration and oversight of operational, engineering, project management and utility administration issues.

The selected candidate will have broad knowledge of environmental issues related to water and wastewater, pertinent Federal, State and local laws, and codes and regulations. He/she will have a solid understanding of current developments, literature, and sources of information regarding water and wastewater management.

The Assistant Director will have strong leadership abilities and be able to make tough decisions and effectively make changes when needed. He/she will be a good multi-tasker with the ability to balance numerous programs with a multitude of issues simultaneously.

The new Assistant Director will have a strong commitment to customer service, employee development, and building cooperative relationships. He/she will embrace these concepts and be able to motivate staff in a manner that will drive excellent customer service delivery and promote opportunities for employee growth and advancement.

Exceptional oral and written communication skills are also a necessity for success in this position. The ideal candidate will be expected to cultivate good working relationships with a number of parties that include the City Council, City and Department staff, the development community, regulatory and outside agencies, and the public.

Minimum Qualifications
Any combination of education and experience that would provide the required knowledge and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the required knowledge and abilities would be:

Education: Equivalent to completion of a Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in civil engineering or a related field.

Experience: Five (5) years of increasingly responsible professional civil engineering experience with emphasis in the field of water or wastewater management, including at least two (2) years of management responsibility.

Salary: $143,662.33 - $174,604.56 Annually
