The Environmental Coordinator is a key member of the District's Engineering team. Under general supervision of the Director of Engineering and Operations, the Environmental Coordinator performs the full range of duties required to ensure that the District maintains compliance with all environmental, cultural, and tribal regulatory requirements for new and existing projects. The Environmental Coordinator oversees and participates in activities within the Engineering and Administration Departments. The incumbent is accountable for planning and accomplishing operational goals and objectives for furthering the District's mission while providing highly complex and professional level support to the General Manager/CEO, Director of Engineering and Operations, and other District management staff in areas of expertise. The Environmental Coordinator is classified as an exempt, professional/supervisory position.

The District is seeking a team-oriented individual with a deep understanding of Endangered Species and regulatory issues. The ideal candidate will be a self-motivated person with a passionate approach to solving complex environmental problems within the region and should have a proven track record for establishing positive relationships with various wildlife and other regulating agencies.

Examples of Duties / Knowledge & Skills

  • Coordinates District programs to ensure compliance with environmental laws and regulations; oversees the design and development of projects and activities to mitigate environmental impacts and implementation of restoration projects.

  • Prepares technical reports for submission to regulatory agencies; oversees the issuance and renewal of District permits and the review, processing, revising, renewal and issuance of wastewater discharge permits; coordinates, negotiates and monitors multi-agency programs, projects, permits and agreements.

  • Coordinates planning activities and program services with other departments and outside agencies; develops partnerships, with other utilities and agencies; facilitates intergovernmental agreements when necessary; ensures that District goals are integrated into local and regional plans.

  • Participates and/or oversees local multi-agency coordination initiatives; works with agencies and organizations to encourage and support research and development initiatives and projects of interest to the District; monitors and oversees the review of proposed legislation and regulations for impacts on water supply, water quality and environmental resource management/mitigation; recommends and implements policy and procedure changes consistent with requirements.

  • Represents the District in meetings with members of the Board of Directors, members of boards and commissions, various governmental agencies, and a variety of public and private organizations.

  • Attends and participates in professional group meetings; stays abreast of new laws, regulations, trends and innovations in this field; implements policy and procedural changes as required.

Minimum qualifications & Requirements
Candidates must possess education equivalent to a Bachelor's Degree from an accredited four-year college or university with a major in Biological Science, Ecology, Environmental Sciences or closely related field, and at least five (5) years of progressively responsible experience in the field(s) of biological sciences, environmental planning, regulatory compliance field. A Master's Degree and a Geographic Information Systems (GIS) Certificate is desired.

Salary: $90,168.00 - $99,528.00 Annually
