  • Conducts on-site inspections of construction projects, water mains, sanitary sewers, storm sewers. City maintained water mains, streets, alleys, and drainage channels.
  • Maintains an accurate asset records and daily log of assigned projects.
  • Investigates and responds to complaints relating to easements, streets, alleys, right-of-ways, and construction activities; coordinates project activities with contractors and other departments as needed.
  • Inspects privately maintained sites; meets with Home Owner’s Associations and residents regarding easement issues; investigates complaints and identifies maintenance responsibilities.
  • Checks operation of fire hydrants, water valves, and tests water systems.
  • Reviews and interprets plat and construction plans to ensure compliance.
  • Evaluates street, alley, and sidewalk conditions to determine the amount of work needed in a given area; inspects sanitary sewers and the rehabilitation of sewer mains, manholes, and services laterals.
  • Collects data and maintains inventories of City infrastructure; prepares quantity reports on infrastructure rehabilitation; inputs data into City databases.
  • Participates in the training and guidance of new inspectors.
  • Responds to inquiries from administration staff, City staff, and citizens; provides general information and responds to questions as appropriate.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
  • The incumbent interprets plans and specifications to ensure compliance and verifies that infrastructure is constructed in accordance with the plans and specifications.


  • Public Works and Utilities construction or construction of water pump stations and elevated water storage tanks; geotechnical quality control instruments; civil construction methods and standards; construction health and safety standards and procedures.
  • Communicating effectively both verbally and in writing; reading and interpreting engineering plans; working with little or no direct supervision.

Education / Experience:

  • High school diploma or GED equivalent.
  • Two (2) years of experience in the inspection of construction projects, including field surveying.

Any work related experience resulting in acceptable proficiency levels in the above Minimum Qualifications is an acceptable substitute for the above specified education and experience requirements.

Licenses and Certifications:

  • Texas Class C driver's license; certification as a Construction Inspector is desirable.

Salary: $23.38 to $33.90 Hourly
